The Return of Self-Practice

I’ve set myself a little challenge for the month of July – 30 minutes of movement everyday in July. I’m going to post a time-lapse of what I get up to on Instagram each day. I’m choosing to do the videoing element mostly for accountability – nothing like the subtle pressure of social media to keep one on track!

The truth is that amongst the busy-ness of starting up and now running a new business, my own self-practice had slipped in recent months, and I’ve rather suffered because of it. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve been doing plenty of Pilates, but it was typically prepping for classes, troubleshooting a certain exercise, demoing in a group class, that kind of stuff. But it was the movement for myself and movement for movement’s sake that’s been lacking.

For a long time now, movement has been a form of meditation for me. It’s head space. It’s (literally) a chance to catch my breath. It’s an opportunity to check in with my own body and its idiosyncrasies. It’s fun! And that, unfortunately, had gone by the wayside recently.

So. Here we go. 30 minutes of movement everyday in July to get me back on track, back to a regular practice for the sake of all of the above and for whatever else this practice has in store for me. I kind of can’t wait!
I’ll be sure to update you on how I get on, and if you’re following on Instagram you can see what I get up to from there, too.
